Hurricane Relief

How We Can Help

As we continue to witness the growing amount of devastation that Hurricane Helene has caused across Western NC, First Church is committed to working with local and regional relief efforts to help support our fellow North Carolinians in dire need.

Below you'll find three specific ways you can help as soon as possible.

  1. Pray. We invite you to pray continually for our brothers and sisters in Christ in Western North Carolina. Click here for a special prayer from Bishop Carter of the Western NC Conference of the UMC.

  2. Donate Food. First UMC is an official drop-off site for Guilford Country's A Simple Gesture's Urgent Food Drive for their sister chapter in Watauga County housed at the Health and Hunger Coalition. Click here or see below for a list of items they are collecting. Collection boxes are located in the Education building lobby, Sanctuary narthex, and Praise & Worship on Wrenn St. Collection for this round of donations will end Sunday, October 6, and ASG will deliver all materials to the High Country on Monday, October 7.

  3. Make a Monetary DonationClick here to directly support the Western NC Conference of the UMC's recovery efforts. Your gifts ensure that our neighbors will receive the help and hope they need for years to come. Donations can also be brought to the church office throughout the week or to worship this coming Sunday, 10/6. Please mark all donations with "Hurricane Relief"; checks should be made out to FUMC.
