Northwood Elementary School Mission Project

Adopt a Classroom

Grab a friend and adopt a classroom together at Northwood! Our goal is to provide each teacher with a “room parent(s)” to help in the classroom, gather much-needed supplies, and offer general support. Click here for some fun ideas.

First Church Christmas Angels

During the month of December, the First Church family helps make the children of Northwood’s Christmas wishes come true. Gifts are donated and collected by age and gender. The students then visit their festively decorated Media Center to pick out a gift of their choice to bring home. Last year, First was able to provide over 500 gifts - one for each student! Click HERE for a video of the gift distribution day!

Grounds Beautification

First is dedicated to maintaining the campus grounds at Northwood. Whether it’s planting, weeding, mowing, or sprucing up outdoor furniture for the students to enjoy while eating lunch,

Backpack Blessing

Each August, First collects school supplies and backpacks in order for each student to receive a full-stocked bag for their school year. Last year over 250 backpacks were distributed to students, including several boxes of supplies for the teachers. Whether it is donating items or backpacks, helping stuff the bags, delivering them to Northwood, or distributing them to students at Open House, help is always needed!

The Northwood School Mission Project is an ongoing continuation of the 2021 Venturing Beyond the Steeple (VBS) immersive mission experience. Throughout the year there are various opportunities to support this mission, whether it be through donating school supplies, a backpack for our Backpack Blessing each fall, gifts to the Birthday Club, adopting an outdoor space to keep clean and beautiful, or connecting with a teacher to help support them and add some extra love to their classroom throughout the year. Contact Kim Myers (kim@fumc-highpoint.org) to get involved.
